Fremont Unified School District Honor Band

Junior High Band
  • Music will be given out in late September/early October for all students
  • If interested in being in the junior high honor band, sign up for a "show me" slot with Ms. Mitchell for  11/29 and 11/30
    • This is just to determine if you are ready for an honor band position
    • If you are determined "ready" you will be signed up for the honor band by Ms. Mitchell
    • Ms. Mitchell usually takes 8-10 students for the honor band as there is a limit to the final number of musicians
  • If you are signed up for the junior high school honor band you are automatically in. You do not have to further audition for the group; however, there is a seating placement on the first rehearsal. This just means that you have to play the same music you played for me in front of one of the other junior high school teachers
    • For the seating placement we listen for the following musical elements (in order of importance)
      • Rhythm
      • Tone quality
      • Technical facility (articulation, style, dynamics, etc.)
      • Musical expression
      • Tempo
    • Notice that tempo is last! It's SO much better to play with good rhythm and pitch than with good tempo!
